Visiting Malta is not something that you read about often on travel blogs – this little island doesn’t seem to get as much love as its neighbors, Italy and Sicily. I visited Malta in 2011 with my best friend and enjoyed my time on this quirky, beautiful island.
Some of the main takeaways I had from my brief visit were: 1) This place has a lot of stairs and 2) why are there so many stray cats?? There are so many stray cats in Malta that I even bought my sister a “Cats of Malta” calendar (don’t worry, she was a cat owner at the time).
I visited Malta while on a Mediterranean cruise, but there are plenty of other ways to get there. Easyjet offers a few cheap flights and many major airlines (such as Delta, British Airways) have connecting flights from the US to Malta.
Italian is widely spoken in Malta, but the official languages are English and Maltese.
Malta has a mild climate and lots of beaches. I went in January, so I wasn’t able to take advantage of the beaches. The weather was much warmer in Malta than it had been in Turkey, where I was just two days prior.
