Definition of WANDERLUST

: strong longing for or impulse toward wandering

Hello and thanks for dropping by! I’m Robin, a 30-something plagued with wanderlust! I started this blog back in 2012 when everyone was saying “quit your job to travel! It’s the only way to do it!” It’s not only possible to travel while holding down a job, but you can do it extensively as well! You don’t have to feel limited by the dreaded words: vacation time! That’s what the meaning of this blog is – how to fulfill your wanderlust while holding down a 9 to 5 job.

When I started this blog, I was working a 9 to 5 (or 10 to 7 or 8 to 11) job in the television news industry in New York City. Despite my hectic and busy job, I still managed to travel frequently – I’ve camped in the Sahara,  navigated the Grand Bazaar in Turkey, jumped off a yacht in Capri, gotten sick in Peru and gotten lost in Shanghai.  For a list of the countries I’ve been to, look here.

Recently, I’ve moved to Paris and made the plunge into expat life. There are various reasons I made this jump – traveling more is definitely one of them. Go to This Parisienne Life to read about my Paris expat adventures. And head to my professional site to learn more about my life as a journalist.

Whether you think you don’t have enough vacation days or don’t make enough money, there’s a way to travel and I’ll show you how! Here’s a few helpful posts to get you started!

  1. Hi,

My name is KC Owens, I’m a college student and I love to travel! While cruising the Internet, I found your site and really enjoyed reading your posts. I have been to countries all over Europe with just my backpack and a camera. Since I am a college student and I have significant bills, it can be difficult to find ways to travel the world. However, I have done this several times, with less than ten pounds of luggage and while on a college dime!

I was hoping that you would allow me to write a post for your site to share my tips and tricks with your readers. I put a lot of time into my traveling, it is my biggest passion and I would love to inspire others by sharing my stories, mistakes and triumphs. I look forward to hearing from you!

    KC Owens
